I want to give you an update on Amber who has acquired a stomach amoeba. She started puking this morning at about 1:30 am with a rather severe case of accompanying diarrhea. We called a doctor (who is a personal friend of a my good friends here), and he came to the hotel and checked on Amber this morning, ordered some tests (no needles!), and prescribed some medicine. Amber stopped barfing by 9:30am and is rehydrating well. She has kept down some water crackers, and almost a liter of apple juice, plus a liter of water with some hydrating salts. Then we found out about an hour ago (after her lab results) that she has "Entomoeba hisolytica" and the doctor is on the way back to our hotel with some medicine. She's been a real trooper, but this is clearly not the way she wanted to travel. Your prayers are greatly appreciated. I'm doing the best I can to take care of the poor girl, but at one point, after rubbing her legs she said "You don't know how to give a massage do you?" So my skills are rather limited. I put a cold press on her head at times this morning, and drew her bath, got her drinks, etc. but my nursing skills don't hold a candle to either Kathleen's or Megans. Keep her in your prayers as she rests through the next couple of days. We'll keep you posted on her recovery, and want you to know we are in good care with the doctor and friends who live here. We're not fearful of anything worse, so please don't worry. |

Nepal. I'm sick. BOO!
We're in Nepal and I have a blurp of an email that David sent to my family. This will explain why I haven't been writing much.

Bummer! We will be praying for a speedy recovery. Hope you feel better soon!
ReplyDeleteSo sorry Amber. Those sneaky little amoebas are so mean. With the right meds you should be good to go soon. Hope you feel better soon, I'll say a prayer. David, just keep it up. It sounds like you're doing a wonderful job.
