We had a wonderful Thanksgiving in Chico-- lots of family and friends. Plus, Chico is just a great town. I love it there and so does David. We enjoy the smallness, the sense of community and scenery. It's so simple and seemingly uncomplicated. (No, we are not thinking of moving back, just enjoying the town and all that it holds).
My sister threw a baby shower for me the weekend before Thanksgiving. It was a huge blessing. We received a lot of wonderful gifts and I was able to re-connect with friends. In these last few weeks, I have been very grateful for all the support and encouragement we've received as we enter this new season of family. We are starting our family and its so exciting!!
Among other thoughts, I continue to think about the birth of Jesus. As I go about preparing for our little bundle of joy, I am reminded of Jesus' birth. Our home is filled with baby clothes, gear and diapers, yet I can usually think of something we don't have-- a rocking chair, jogging stroller, the right kind of detergent and the list goes on.....I quickly let those DON'T HAVES become bigger than what they are, until I remember my Savior, Jesus, was born a babe in manager. He came into the world in humility and his mother had nothing to offer, but her love and care. All my worrisome thoughts disappear when I consider the conditions of his birth and I am flooded with His peace. I think this Christmas season, one of my favorite songs is What A Child Is This because it helps to center me to a place where I can recognize Truth.
What Child is this who, laid to rest
On Mary's lap is sleeping?
Whom Angels greet with anthems sweet,
While shepherds watch are keeping?
[CHORUS]
This, this is Christ the King,
Whom shepherds guard and Angels sing;
Haste, haste, to bring Him laud,
The Babe, the Son of Mary.
Why lies He in such mean estate,
Where ox and ass are feeding?
Good Christians, fear, for sinners here
The silent Word is pleading.
Nails, spear shall pierce Him through,
The cross be borne for me, for you.
Hail, hail the Word made flesh,
The Babe, the Son of Mary.
So bring Him incense, gold and myrrh,
Come peasant, king to own Him;
The King of kings salvation brings,
Let loving hearts enthrone Him.
Raise, raise a song on high,
The virgin sings her lullaby.
Joy, joy for Christ is born,
The Babe, the Son of Mary.
